From My Position

“I will present a series of works inspired of personal experiences and thoughts of my childhood and militarism. The artworks are the culmination of a project started in 2005. The project presents a collection of toys with a military or violence context. I started to buy these toys in different stores and then collected and classified them. The idea was to remove these toys from these stores and to present it as an example of the varieties and shape. The second piece comes from the U.S. Army Infantrybook called the “Infantry Bible”. For this work, I created a series of bad illustrations and some text accompanying it. The drawing will be presented as an installation with a splash of lamb’s blood. This piece re-contextualized the paradox between the word military and bible and the resulting factor as sacrifice.”

Gamaliel Rodriguez-Ayala ble født i Bayamón, Puerto Rico, i 1977. Han tjenestegjorde i USAs infanteri før han studerte kommunikasjon med vekt på visuelle kunstarter ved University of Sacred Heart i Santurce, Puerto Rico. Der tok han en Bachelor Degree with Honors før han reiste til England og tok en Mastergrad i kunst ved University for the Creative Arts i Kent.

Han har nylig deltatt på the National Show i Puerto Rico 06, PHOTO MIAMI 06 (The Contemporary Photo Based Art Fair, hvor han deltok med en serie bannere), Art Los Angeles Art Fair 07, samt andre utstillinger. I desember 2007 vil han være representert med arbeider på The Florence Biennale.

Eli Storbekken med gitarist, begge medlemmer i 'Latin Folk Joik Ensemble', vil spille på åpningen. Eli er datter av Egil Storbekken.

Utstillingen er som vanlig åpen lørdager og søndager kl 12:00 – 16:00.
